Background:

  • Bladder neck obstruction (BNO) is a condition affecting the bladder outlet.
  • Surgical intervention is often required to relieve BNO.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of laparoscopic cystomyotomy for treating BNO in male patients.

Main Methods:

  • Eighteen male patients with BNO underwent an extraperitoneal laparoscopic cystomyotomy.
  • A linear incision was made at the bladder neck, dividing the muscle while preserving the mucosa.

Main Results:

  • A significant improvement (88.8%) was observed in 16 patients.
  • Two patients with severe bladder pathology (bilharzial bladder) experienced treatment failure.
  • No operative or postoperative complications, including retrograde ejaculation or restenosis, were reported.

Conclusions:

  • Laparoscopic cystomyotomy is a simple, safe, and effective treatment for bladder neck obstruction.
  • The procedure is associated with a short postsurgical recovery period and minimal complications.
