Research and the discipline of nursing: a European perspective

The significance of good health served by high quality health professionals in the United Europe is of paramount importance. Within the framework of the philosophical orientation of Europe, with its trends and visions, university education and research are discussed in this article as cornerstones for the development of the nursing discipline. Special emphasis is put on university basic nursing education for beginning nurse practitioners, along with the cultivation of fundamental human values and ideals inherent in the nursing philosophy.
