Brain injury: the need to assess outcome

After traumatic brain injury, outcome measures can be used to monitor the effectiveness of preventative programmes and of therapy in acute management and rehabilitation. Early prediction of outcome can help with the planning of intervention in terms of cost and improving function. Outcome studies have determined that problems with psychosocial adjustment and quality of life are the most important in the long term.
