    Summary

    Vitamin D activity does not directly affect renal calcium-binding protein synthesis. Intestinal calcium-binding protein levels increase with vitamin D and phosphate deficiency, unlike renal protein.

    Background:

    • Vitamin D is crucial for calcium homeostasis.
    • Calcium-binding proteins play key roles in calcium transport.
    • The regulation of renal versus intestinal calcium-binding proteins by vitamin D is not fully understood.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare the effects of vitamin D activity on renal and intestinal calcium-binding proteins.
    • To investigate the role of phosphate deficiency in regulating these proteins.

    Main Methods:

    • Vitamin D deficient rats were treated with vitamin D for up to 5 days.
    • Rats were fed a phosphate-deficient diet for up to 21 days.
    • Calcium-binding capacity assays were used to measure protein levels.
