    Summary

    During mitosis, nuclear pore complexes are retained on chromosomes, not newly synthesized. These structures reassemble post-mitosis without requiring new protein synthesis, maintaining their original structure.

    Background:

    • The nuclear pore complex (NPC) regulates transport between the nucleus and cytoplasm.
    • During mitosis, the nuclear envelope disassembles, and NPCs are thought to be degraded.
    • The fate of NPC components during mitosis has been unclear.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the fate of nuclear pore complex components during mitosis.
    • To determine if NPCs are reassembled or newly synthesized after mitosis.

    Main Methods:

    • Microscopic analysis of chromosomes during and after mitosis.
    • Assessment of protein synthesis inhibition effects on NPC formation.
