Summary

Cytokines like Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta) and Interleukin-6 (IL-6) are key in normal labor, similar to preterm labor mechanisms. Their levels rise significantly during term labor, suggesting biochemical control.

  • To investigate if cytokines involved in preterm labor also play a role in normal term labor mechanisms.
  • To quantify cytokine concentrations in cervicovaginal secretions during different labor stages.

  • Analysis of cervicovaginal secretions from 96 patients across four groups: spontaneous term labor, preterm rupture of membranes, and intact membranes.
