A rare brain tumor, angioleiomyoma, was found in a 12-year-old girl

Area of Science:

  • Neurology
  • Neurosurgery
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Angioleiomyomas are rare tumors typically found in the skin.
  • This case presents a unique occurrence within the basal ganglia.

Observation:

  • A 12-year-old girl exhibited symptoms of increased intracranial pressure, seizures, and movement disorders.
  • Imaging revealed a large lesion in the right basal ganglia and a smaller one in the left globus pallidus.

Findings:

  • Surgical excision and histopathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis of angioleiomyoma.
  • Post-operative imaging showed no recurrence, but the left-sided lesion remained quiescent.

Implications:

  • This case expands the known anatomical locations for angioleiomyomas.
