Improving laparoscopic visibility and safety through smoke evacuation
Abstract:
Smoke produced by combustion of human tissue has been shown to be harmful to surgical personnel. Additional problems with smoke are encountered during laparoscopy due to impaired visibility when smoke accumulates in the abdomen. A device is described which removes smoke from the abdomen without applying suction to the abdominal cavity, deflating the abdomen, or venting the smoke into the operating room.
