Summary

Hypertrophic osteoarthropathy (HOA) involves finger clubbing, periostosis, and arthritis. This study found elevated endothelin-1, beta-thromboglobulin, and platelet-derived growth factor in HOA patients, suggesting a role for the endothelium/platelet unit.

Background:

  • Hypertrophic osteoarthropathy (HOA) presents with finger clubbing, periostosis, and arthritis.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate circulating levels of endothelin-1 (ET-1), beta-thromboglobulin (beta-TG), and platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) in HOA patients.
  • To compare these levels between HOA patients, healthy individuals, and patients with lung diseases.

Main Methods:

  • Measurement of serum ET-1, beta-TG, and PDGF levels.
  • Comparison of biomarker levels in 21 HOA patients against control groups (healthy and lung disease patients).
