Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the involvement of the superior colliculus in memory, movement preparation, and peripheral attention.

  • Single-cell recordings were performed in monkeys performing visuo-oculomotor tasks.
  • Tasks included delayed saccade (SACD), saccade with overlap target (SACO), and attention (ATT).
  • Tonic neuronal activities were analyzed and classified into four types: visuomotor, mnemonic motor, attention, and nonspecific.

Main Results:

  • 141 neurons with task-related tonic activity were recorded.
