Findings:
- Long-term follow-up confirmed resolution or significant reduction in all observed pyelectases.
- Hydronephrosis occurred in 23 newborns, necessitating surgery in 9.
- Pyelonephritis incidence was 1.4% during infancy among newborns with pyelectasis.
Implications:
- Newborn pyelectasis is generally considered a benign condition.
- Continued surveillance is recommended for cases with increasing size, significant calyectasis, or ureterectasis.
- This study supports a conservative management approach for most neonatal pyelectasis cases.
