Variant (8;22) translocation in lymphoblastic lymphoma

Summary

This study reports a rare case of lymphoblastic lymphoma in a 20-year-old female involving the c-myc oncogene and immunoglobulin genes. This chromosomal translocation t(8;22) is a significant finding in B-cell lymphoma research.

Background:

Chromosomal translocations involving the c-myc oncogene and immunoglobulin (Ig) genes are observed in various non-Hodgkin lymphomas.
These translocations can lead to altered gene expression and contribute to lymphomagenesis.

Observation:

A case of lymphoblastic lymphoma in a 20-year-old female is presented.
The patient exhibited a specific chromosomal translocation, t(8;22).

Findings:

Cytogenetic, immunologic, and molecular studies were conducted on the patient's lymphoma cells.
The translocation t(8;22) juxtaposes the c-myc oncogene with Ig genes in this B-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma.

Implications:

This represents the first reported association of the t(8;22) translocation with B-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma.
