Summary

This study reports a rare case of lymphoblastic lymphoma in a 20-year-old female involving the c-myc oncogene and immunoglobulin genes. This chromosomal translocation t(8;22) is a significant finding in B-cell lymphoma research.

Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Genetics
  • Immunology

Background:

  • Chromosomal translocations involving the c-myc oncogene and immunoglobulin (Ig) genes are observed in various non-Hodgkin lymphomas.
  • These translocations can lead to altered gene expression and contribute to lymphomagenesis.

Observation:

  • A case of lymphoblastic lymphoma in a 20-year-old female is presented.
  • The patient exhibited a specific chromosomal translocation, t(8;22).

Findings:

  • Cytogenetic, immunologic, and molecular studies were conducted on the patient's lymphoma cells.
  • The translocation t(8;22) juxtaposes the c-myc oncogene with Ig genes in this B-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma.

Implications:

  • This represents the first reported association of the t(8;22) translocation with B-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma.
