Compliance of patients with bronchial asthma is often found to be insufficient. In a pilot study 66 patients with bronchial asthma underwent a teaching program in the setting of an in-patient rehabilitation treatment. The differentiation of this in-patient group showed that fear of negative side-effects and the doubt about the effectiveness--according to the period of illness, extent of bronchial restrictions and period of life--influence the quantity of corticoid taken by the patients. To improve the effectiveness of such teaching programs these aspects therefore have to be taken into consideration.
