Abstract:
The term collegiality, as defined in the AORN professional performance standards, identifies an obligation for perioperative nurses to advance their specialty and contribute to the growth of peers and colleagues. Networking is a personally inspiring and cost-effective way to accomplish many of the goals set forth in these standards. A group of perioperative nurse educators in southeastern Michigan recognized this opportunity and combined resources to achieve collegiality and reach common goals. The benefits of increasing contacts, sharing resources, and gaining peer support contribute to the ultimate goal of providing quality education for perioperative staff members.
