[Syncope-like episodes as a symptom of conversion syndrome in a 15-year-old girl]

Abstract:
The authors present a case of a 15-years-old girl with syncope-like episodes occurring for 6 months. We found that disturbances of consciousness observed in our patient were due to conversion syndrome. Problems concerning differential diagnosis of syncope-like episodes are discussed with special emphasis on psychogenic syndromes, cardiogenic, neurogenic and metabolic causes, as well as the use of modern diagnostic techniques (e.g. video/EEG monitoring).
