Summary

Muscle temperature does not significantly affect turn/amplitude analysis in the 27-37°C range. This finding indicates that temperature monitoring is not required for accurate electromyogram (EMG) analysis during elbow flexion exercises.

  • EMG signals were recorded from the biceps brachii muscle of ten healthy individuals during isometric contractions.
  • Recordings were taken at two temperature conditions: warmed (≥37°C) and cooled (≤27°C).

Main Results:

  • A decrease in muscle temperature (average 10.9°C) led to a significant reduction in mean T/s (P=0.002).
  • Mean A/T showed a non-significant increase with cooling.
  • The ratio T/s:A/T significantly decreased (P=0.0001) with lower muscle temperatures, though no pathological results were observed.

Conclusions:

  • Turn/amplitude analysis is reliable within the tested temperature range of 27°C to 37°C.
  • Temperature monitoring is not essential for performing accurate turn/amplitude analysis in this context.
