Non-smokers exposed to an anti-rust substance developed severe respiratory issues, including pulmonary edema, after inhaling nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and hydrogen fluoride. Smokers experienced milder symptoms, suggesting smoking may reduce NO2 sensitivity.
