Summary

Elevated membrane tumor necrosis factor-alpha (mTNF) and reduced TNF receptor shedding in monocytes correlate with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) development. A dual deregulation in monocyte TNF-alpha production indicates increased mTNF and decreased receptor shedding, predicting organ failure.
