Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Andrology
  • Pharmacology

Background:

  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common condition in aging men.
  • BPH is often associated with lower urinary tract symptoms and can affect sexual function.
  • The relationship between prostatico-vesical inflammation and sexual disturbances requires further investigation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the relationship between prostatico-vesical inflammation and sexual disturbances in patients with BPH.
  • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of mepartricin in treating BPH and its impact on sexual function.

Main Methods:

  • Two groups of 15 patients with uncomplicated BPH were treated with mepartricin (150,000 U/day for 60 days).
  • Group A had sexual disturbances, while Group B did not.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Sexual function was assessed using symptomatic, instrumental, and a specific quantitative evaluation of dynamic erection.
  • Main Results:

    • Mepartricin treatment confirmed the clinical implications of BPH on sexuality.
    • Mepartricin demonstrated excellent manageability, with no drug-induced sexual disturbances observed.
    • The erectile activity index showed qualitative improvement in both groups, even without quantitative changes.

    Conclusions:

    • BPH has significant clinical implications for male sexual health.
    • Mepartricin is a well-tolerated medication for BPH with a positive impact on sexual function.
    • Further research may explore the mechanisms behind mepartricin's qualitative improvement of erectile activity.
