For a large and growing number of people in the United States, too much fatty food, too little activity, and an inherited tendency toward insulin resistance add up to type II diabetes. Improved diet and regular exercise are the ideal therapy. But most patients also require pharmacologic intervention to keep the disorder in check and to ward off microvascular and macrovascular and complications.
