Conservation breast therapy at Roper Hospital: the early experience

The preliminary analysis, done at five years, of the initial population of women treated at Roper Hospital with the intention of breast preservation is consistent with and not at variance with results from larger series and institutions. Fifty patients are available for analysis from five to 12 years following breast irradiation. One has recurred in the treated breast. One has had a contralateral primary carcinoma. Forty-nine (98 percent) have had no recurrence of their primary breast lesion and none developed metastases.
