Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Surgical Pathology

Context:

  • Gastric lymphoma is a rare malignancy.
  • Review of 23 hospital admissions over 10 years.
  • Analysis of Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma subtypes.

Purpose:

  • To evaluate treatment outcomes for gastric lymphoma.
  • To assess the quality of life after total gastrectomy.
  • To compare total gastrectomy with other therapeutic options.

Summary:

  • 23 gastric lymphoma cases analyzed (44.78% Hodgkin, 65.22% non-Hodgkin).
  • Total gastrectomy performed in 56.52% of cases.
  • Quality of life post-total gastrectomy (23.07%) superior to gastric resection or chemotherapy.

Impact:

  • Total gastrectomy may be a viable option for gastric lymphoma.
  • Highlights the importance of quality of life in treatment decisions.
  • Suggests further investigation into optimizing surgical outcomes for gastric malignancies.
