Combined reconstructive and prosthetic surgery effectively treats complicated lower urinary tract dysfunction, leading to improved continence and quality of life for most patients. Renal function remained stable or improved in all participants.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of combined reconstructive and prosthetic surgery for complicated lower urinary tract dysfunction.
  • To assess the functional results and quality of life in patients undergoing these combined procedures.

Main Methods:

  • A cohort of 24 patients (16 male, 8 female) with neuropathic or nonneuropathic urinary dysfunction was studied.
  • Surgical interventions included augmentation/substitution cystoplasty, artificial urinary sphincter placement, abdominoperineal urethroplasty, and urethral stenting.
