Summary

Phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation is safe and effective for high myopia, showing no retinal detachment or secondary cataracts. Post-operative refraction was accurate, and visual acuity was maintained in all patients.

Context:

High myopia presents significant visual challenges.
Phacoemulsification with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation is a common surgical procedure.

Purpose:

To evaluate the safety and efficacy of phacoemulsification with IOL implantation in patients with high myopia.

Summary:

The study included 39 eyes of 26 high myopic patients (refraction -6 to -28 diopters).
Follow-up (3-23 months) revealed no retinal detachment or significant secondary cataracts.
Achieved refraction was within +1 to -6 diopters of the intended target.
No patient experienced a decrease in visual acuity.

Impact:

Phacoemulsification with IOL implantation is a viable and safe option for correcting high myopia.
The procedure demonstrates good refractive predictability and preserves visual function.
