Summary

Effective intrapulpal injections rely on back-pressure, not the anesthetic solution. This study found that both saline and anesthetic solutions achieved similar success rates when administered with back-pressure during endodontic procedures.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the role of the anesthetic solution versus back-pressure in the effectiveness of intrapulpal injections.
  • To compare the success rates of saline versus a standard anesthetic solution in intrapulpal injections.

  • A double-blind clinical study was performed.
  • Thirty-five intrapulpal injections were administered using back-pressure.
  • Injections contained either saline solution or 2% lidocaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine.
