Fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) shows promise for locating hyperfunctioning parathyroid tissue in patients with recurrent hyperparathyroidism. This imaging technique can aid in planning reoperative surgery for persistent or recurrent hyperparathyroidism.
