Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To test the hypotheses that the relationship between VO2,max and inspired partial pressure of oxygen (PI,O2) is determined by the oxygen equilibrium curve's shape.
  • To investigate if differences in this relationship between endurance athletes (E) and sedentary subjects (S) are due to their operating positions on the oxygen equilibrium curve.
