  • Re-evaluation of the spinal tumor revealed immunoreactivity for myeloperoxidase and chloroacetate esterase.
  • The tumor was reclassified as a granulocytic sarcoma, a type of myeloid sarcoma.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the potential for misdiagnosis of myeloid neoplasms presenting as extramedullary tumors.
  • Immunohistochemical and enzymochemical stains are crucial for accurate classification.
  • Granulocytic sarcoma can precede or occur concurrently with acute myeloid leukemia.
