Abstract:
1. Social support is a recognized and crucial need for caregivers of people with severe mental illness. 2. Family caregivers value support from professionals based on an acknowledgment and respect for the caregiver's role in the patient's life. 3. Relatives and friends can provide important but limited tangible aid and emotional support.
