  • Acute interstitial nephritis (AIN) is an important cause of drug-induced kidney injury.

Observation:

  • A patient developed nonoliguric acute renal failure during omeprazole therapy for peptic ulcer disease.
  • Peripheral eosinophilia and eosinophiluria were noted in the patient's blood and urine samples.

Findings:

  • The patient was diagnosed with drug-induced acute interstitial nephritis attributed to omeprazole.
  • Renal function spontaneously improved after the cessation of omeprazole treatment.

Implications:

  • This case highlights a rare but serious renal adverse effect of omeprazole.
  • Clinicians should consider omeprazole-induced AIN in patients presenting with unexplained acute kidney injury.
  • Prompt drug withdrawal is crucial for the recovery of renal function in such cases.
