[The evaluation of the detoxication function of the kidneys by the clearance of middle molecules]

The detoxifying function of the kidneys was examined in 56 patients with renal diseases. The function was assessed from the clearance of medium-mass molecules in relation to the total water content in the body. Medium-mass molecules in the serum and urine were assessed by the method based on direct UV spectrophotometry. A correlation has been revealed between the content of medium-mass molecules, serum creatinine, clearance of creatinine, and the detoxifying function of the kidneys. The method is simple, reliable, and does not require expensive reagents.
