    Summary

    Cataract surgery in rabbits showed intraocular lens implantation led to a statistically significant 13-day delay in corneal recovery. Pathologic examination confirmed feasibility and minimal tissue response to the implanted lenses.

    Background:

    • Extracapsular cataract extraction is a common surgical procedure.
    • Intraocular lens (IOL) implantation is frequently performed concurrently.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the postoperative recovery in rabbit eyes following extracapsular cataract extraction with and without intraocular lens implantation.
    • To assess the feasibility and tissue response to intracapsular loop fixation in rabbit eyes.
    • To identify statistically significant parameters for postoperative evaluation in this model.

    • Extracapsular cataract extraction was performed on 40 rabbit eyes.
    • 20 eyes underwent concurrent intraocular lens implantation.
