Background:

Observation:

  • Human amniotic membrane transplantation (AMT) was performed on 11 patients with refractory PEDs and sterile corneal ulcers.
  • The ulcers had persisted for an average of 17.5 weeks despite prior treatments.

Findings:

  • Successful healing was observed in 10 out of 11 patients within an average of 3.9 weeks post-AMT.
  • Recurrence-free healing was maintained for a mean follow-up of 9.0 months.
  • One patient with severe rheumatoid arthritis and corneal perforation did not achieve healing.
