[Vasectomy and spermatic antibodies]

    Context:

    Purpose:

    • To investigate the presence and titre of sperm-agglutinating and sperm-immobilizing antibodies in men before and after vasectomy.

    Summary:

    • Sera from 56 fertile patients were analyzed pre-vasectomy, 4 weeks post-vasectomy, and 3 months post-vasectomy.
    • Sperm antibodies (agglutinating and immobilizing) were not detected pre-vasectomy (titre < 1:16).
    • Four weeks post-vasectomy, significant antibody titres (≥ 1:32) were found in 9 patients (sperm-agglutinating) and 4 patients (sperm-immobilizing), correlating with inflammatory changes and sperm granulomas.
    • By 3 months post-vasectomy, antibody titres decreased to < 1:16 or disappeared in most patients.

    Impact:
