Area of Science:

  • Genitourinary imaging
  • Infectious disease radiology
  • Abdominal and pelvic CT

Background:

  • Genitourinary tuberculosis is the most frequent site of extrapulmonary tuberculous infection.
  • Diagnosis of genitourinary tuberculosis is often challenging and delayed.
  • Tuberculosis can affect various organs within the genitourinary system.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To illustrate the computed tomography (CT) imaging features of genitourinary tuberculosis.
  • To enhance the understanding of CT findings for timely diagnosis.
  • To cover the spectrum of genitourinary structures affected by tuberculosis.

Main Methods:

  • Review of CT scans from patients diagnosed with genitourinary tuberculosis.
  • Detailed description of imaging findings in the kidneys, ureters, bladder, prostate gland, and seminal vesicles.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Correlation of imaging findings with clinical and microbiological data.
  • Main Results:

    • Specific CT features characteristic of genitourinary tuberculosis are presented.
    • Findings include alterations in renal parenchyma, ureteral strictures, bladder wall thickening, and prostatic/seminal vesicle involvement.
    • CT can reveal diverse manifestations of genitourinary tuberculosis.

    Conclusions:

    • CT imaging plays a crucial role in diagnosing genitourinary tuberculosis.
    • Recognizing these CT features can aid in earlier and more accurate diagnosis.
    • Comprehensive evaluation of the genitourinary tract on CT is essential for identifying tuberculous involvement.
