Summary

Frameless stereotactic resection effectively localized and removed small cavernous malformations (CMs), improving outcomes for most patients. This technique offers a less burdensome alternative to traditional frame-based systems for CM surgery.

Background:

  • Cavernous malformations (CMs) are increasingly diagnosed with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
  • Surgical excision is the primary treatment, but small CMs pose localization challenges.
  • Frame-based stereotactic systems aid localization but are time-consuming and burdensome.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the efficacy of a frameless stereotactic device for CM resection.
  • To evaluate the feasibility of image-guided stereotactic resection for difficult-to-localize CMs.

  • Stereotactic resection of 17 CMs in 15 patients using a frameless stereotactic device.
