Abstract:
Nurses are uniquely positioned to nurture both children and parents in the course of their duties. Key nursing roles in this regard include: caregiver, educator, trainer, supporter, interpreter, model, and mentor. The family perspective on the importance of these nursing roles is imparted through quotes from individual parents that vividly convey each family's experience of the nurse-family relationship. While nurses' interactions with families can be challenging and demanding, nurses are urged to see the intangible rewards of their nurturing role.
