Background:

  • Vaccination guidelines recommend tetanus, diphtheria, and inactivated polio vaccines for transplant recipients.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the immunogenicity and durability of tetanus, diphtheria, and inactivated polio vaccine boosters in renal transplant recipients.
  • To compare vaccine response in transplant recipients with healthy controls.

Main Methods:

  • Serum antibody levels were measured pre-vaccination and 4 weeks post-vaccination in 164 renal transplant recipients and controls.
  • Antibody levels were reassessed at 12 months in 55 recipients.
  • Patients were compared based on immunosuppressive drug regimens.
