Summary

Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) patients often have left ventricular (LV) perfusion defects. These defects correlate with reduced LV function, especially severe irreversible defects, indicating a higher risk subgroup.

Background:

  • Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) is a genetic disorder affecting muscle strength.
  • Cardiac involvement is a significant concern in BMD patients.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess left ventricular (LV) perfusion and function in patients with BMD.
  • To investigate the relationship between perfusion defects and LV function.

Main Methods:

  • Evaluated 14 male BMD patients (age 14-40) using 201Tl SPECT and radionuclide angiography.
  • Performed rest and dipyridamole stress tests to assess LV perfusion and function.

Main Results:

  • All patients exhibited LV perfusion defects (mean 4.1 +/- 2.2 per patient).
