Summary

Intra-ischemic hypothermia significantly reduced astroglial reactions, like glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) upregulation, in the hippocampus after cerebral ischemia. This neuroprotective effect suggests glial cells play a key role in neuronal survival post-ischemia.
