Area of Science:

  • Electrophysiology
  • Cardiology
  • Medical Devices

Context:

  • Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (WPW) is a common cause of supraventricular tachycardia.
  • Multiple accessory pathways can complicate ablation procedures.
  • Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a standard treatment for WPW.

Purpose:

  • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of RFA in patients with multiple accessory pathways.
  • To analyze the characteristics and outcomes of RFA for complex WPW cases.

Summary:

  • Radiofrequency ablation was performed in 465 patients with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome.
  • Multiple accessory pathways were identified in 3.9% of patients.
  • Successful ablation was achieved in 86% of pathways, with an 8% recurrence rate.

Related Experiment Videos

Impact:

  • Radiofrequency ablation is a viable treatment option for patients with multiple accessory pathways.
  • The procedure demonstrates a high success rate, comparable to single pathway ablations.
  • This study provides valuable data for managing complex WPW cases.
