Researchers identified two shark genes (Trsc-UAA and Trsc-UBA) encoding major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules. This suggests MHC class I evolved early in vertebrate immune systems, with few T cell receptors (TCR) initially recognizing MHC-oligopeptide complexes.
