Abstract:
The outpatient dialysis setting provides an ideal opportunity for specialized pharmaceutical care, yet has been underserved by pharmacists. Experience at SJMC outpatient dialysis center has shown that pharmacists specialized in nephrology can contribute to improved dialysis care and sizable monetary savings. The experience of a successful nephrology pharmacy service may assist other nephrology programs to expand the potential benefits of enhanced pharmacist involvement in the care of the ESRD patient.
