Giant azygos vein varix

Background:

Primary anomalies of the azygos vein are often caused by tumor compression or vena cava interruption.
Vascular malformations can mimic solid tumors, presenting as mediastinal masses.

Observation:

This report details an unusual case of an isolated giant azygos vein varix.
The patient was asymptomatic, with the condition discovered incidentally.

Findings:

Preoperative computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) failed to provide a definitive diagnosis.
The imaging findings were not conclusive in evaluating the specific venous anatomy.

Implications:

Giant azygos vein varices are rare and can pose diagnostic challenges.
This case highlights the limitations of standard imaging in diagnosing certain vascular anomalies.
Further investigation may be needed for accurate diagnosis and management of similar cases.
