Summary

Atherosclerosis involves cytotoxic stimuli, with vascular cells potentially using stress proteins (heat shock proteins, hsps) for defense. While heat shock protein 70 (hsp70) may protect cells, heat shock protein 60 (hsp60) might trigger immune responses in lesions.
