Abstract:
The biological significance of mammographic microcalcification (MM) was investigated in breast cancer. 119 (39.8%) had evidence of microcalcification, while 170 were negative. Fifty-three (44.5%) of those with MM had nodal metastases. There is no significant correlation between MM and nodal metastases. Five-year survival of patients with MM was significantly shorter than that without. This suggests that MM may be of biological significance in breast cancer, and thereby attention should to be paid to assessing breast cancer patients with mammographic microcalcification.
