A fatality involving methapyrilene

C A Ainsworth, J D Biggs

    Clinical Toxicology
    |January 1, 1977
    PubMed
    Summary

This study details methapyrilene tissue concentrations in a fatal case. High methapyrilene overdosages may alter pharmacologic effects, but no synergistic impact on cardiopulmonary status was observed.

    Area of Science:

    • Toxicology
    • Pharmacology
    • Forensic Science

    Background:

    • Methapyrilene is an antihistamine with historical use.
    • Understanding drug toxicity is crucial for forensic investigations.
    • Evaluating lethal drug levels requires comprehensive data.

    Observation:

    • Tissue concentrations of methapyrilene were analyzed in a fatal case.
    • The patient's cardiopulmonary condition was assessed.
    • Potential interactions between methapyrilene and the patient's health were considered.

    Findings:

    • No synergistic or antagonistic effects of methapyrilene on the patient's cardiopulmonary condition were identified.
    • High overdosages of methapyrilene may lead to altered pharmacologic effects.
    • This case provides data for evaluating lethal methapyrilene levels.

    Implications:

    • This case contributes to understanding methapyrilene toxicity.
    • Findings aid in forensic analysis of fatal overdose cases.
    • Further research may elucidate mechanisms of methapyrilene-induced toxicity.
