Abstract:
Protocols for clinical exercise stress testing aid functional evaluation of cardiac impairment of ambulatory persons. Normal standards, criteria for functional impairment and exercise-enhanced prediction of risk of future cardiac events provide guidelines for clinical management. This review highlights development and evolution of relevant personal and community practice studies over decades that contributed to understanding and application of exercise testing for functional evaluation and enhanced risk prediction.
