[Ocular status of patients with brucellosis]

Clinical and experimental studies (107 patients with brucellosis and 160 guinea pigs with ophthalmic brucellosis) enabled the author to distinguish brucellosis ophthalmodystrophy syndrome, never described previously. The symptoms of the syndrome are as follows: conjunctival cysts, dilatation of the limbus, vascular pannus, atrophy of the pigment edge of the pupil, sclerosis of the lens nucleus, destruction of the vitreous body, maculodystrophy, peripheral chorioretinal dystrophy, and angioretinopathy. The pathogenesis of the syndrome is presented. The author validates the necessity of regular check-ups of patients with brucellosis by oculists.
