Abstract:
The author reviews the experience gained by the Ophthalmooncology Center at the Moscow Helmholtz Research Institute of Ocular Diseases and in the world, demonstrating the progress in the diagnosis and treatment of tumors of the organ of vision. She validates that organ-sparing surgery is preferable. Experience gained by the leading specialists abroad and by the author confirm the desirability of distinguishing ophthalmooncology as a special trend of ophthalmology. This will help not only improve the efficacy of organ-sparing surgery, but preserve the continuity of treatment by surgeons and ophthalmologists, which is important for the early diagnosis of tumors, postoperative follow up, and (if necessary) rehabilitation.
